#RPGaDay2026 Day 30: Pride

Pride is the feeling I get when running an RPG just before my players surprise me. I’ve learned to stay flexible and to hear out players through more trial than I’d prefer (sorry, previous players).

Then again, I’ve also learned to say no. I’m not a GM that says yes to everything or even “yes, but.” There are times when a simple, blunt no is the right choice. Maybe spend some time explaining why and reframing the approach.

I do take pride in running a good game, and often that means when mistakes come up, I feel bad. I shouldn’t. I should figure out what I want to change, apologize, and retcon the situation. It’s as easy as that.

Take pride in being a good communicator who re-evaluates decisions later and seeks to improve.

Quick advice there, though: seek to improve only one thing at a time, lest you overwhelm yourself.
